The sun is moving in 3 directions at once through space.
The sun is also moving upwards, out of the plane of the Milky Way Galaxy, at a speed of 4.4 miles (7 kilometres per second. Currently, our sun is moving outward from about 50 light-years above the galactic plane, but scientists believe the gravitational pull of the Milky Way stars will slow the sun’s escape in about 14 million years. Eventually, the sun will be pulled back into the galactic plane and then drift below it, oscillating back and forth across the plane until its demise.
